COVID-19 Education Relief Funds

Emergency relief funds for COVID-19 are designed to help districts and schools plan and implement evidence-based solutions that strengthen learning, accelerate achievement, and create equitable learning environments.

Background

Congress has passed several economic stimulus packages (CARES, CRRSA, and ARP) to help schools tackle immediate needs, provide continuity of learning, and plan and prepare for post-pandemic needs. The portion of stimulus funds that impact K–12 schools is known as ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief).

Address Social and Emotional Needs

Leaders and teachers must continue to assess the extent to which the social-emotional needs of students are being addressed while also ensuring all students have equitable access to the kinds of learning experiences, strategies, and supports needed to be successful both in and out of school. It is now more urgent than ever to notice, empathize, and address students’ social and emotional well-being and, ultimately, their academic learning.
